The URLs do open the files, but ESD is not following the link and indexing the file (it does index the descriptive name in the link, but not the file itself).

The user account used to index the WP site does have access to the share.

I also tried an http url to a file on another website (anon access rights), but that also was not indexed.

Is it possible to get ESD to index files referenced via URL on another site? (vs using SMB)

No, the crawler do’s not support indexing url’s located on other sites.

Can’t you make a new collection and index all the files on the second site ?
With DFS, do’s you mean “Distributed File System”. Can’t you crawl thus files by the smb crawler instead?

DFS- yes, distributed file system, and yes I can create an SMB index for it as well as index the other site.
What I was trying to do is incorporate all of the results within a single ‘tab’ / site’s results.
It’s not a huge deal, just trying to confirm how it works so I know how to best configure it.
