  I’m trying to index my Alfresco Document Library throught SMB, it doesn´t work because the documents doesn´t have security and gets the following error:

Oct 2 12:57:10 searchdaimon crawlManager[15720]: ERROR: crawlsmb.c: Error! Could not get attributes for //172.25.62.240/Alfresco/sigat/documentLibrary/Alfresco/__ShowDetails.exe. Unknown error code “-1”

    Any sugestions for override the problem?

How is this data served? Is the //172.25.62.240/Alfresco/ share a normal Windows share on a Windows or Linux file server or is it served by Alfresco directly?

I haven’t seen this error before, and haven’t worked much with Alfresco, but if it’s really so that the system don’t provide the normal security attributes I am sure we can find a way around that. Either by mounting the share locally or compiling a version of the SMB crawler without file level security.

As far as I know Alfresco is quit commend, so it would be good to document how one could index its files. If we spends the time making a fix, would you have the time to test it and report back if it worked or not?

I have look into this, and I think I have found a way around your problem. Previously we did not index a file if we were unable to read the security attribute. We will change this so we instead index the file without any security information. You can so change who will be able to search the file from the ES administrator interface.

I will try to have a fix ready by mid next week.

We have looked into this and think we have found a way to solving the issue. Unfortunately we have to make two fixes. First we will have to find out exactly what fail, but the error detection in the last version was not good enough. It only stated that it was an “unknown error”.

We have updated the code to better detect errors now. Can you do the following:

* Download the file http://www.searchdaimon.com/div/bbh-001/boitho-crawlManager-1.4.121-1.i386.rpm
* Then go to Software updates->Advanced in the admin panel and install the rpm.

Then do whatever triggered the error in your first post, and post the new error message her. We will then try to fix the root cause.

Oct 14 10:46:40 searchdaimon crawlManager[6148]: ERROR: crawlsmb.c: Error! Could not get attributes for //172.25.62.240/Alfresco/sigat/documentLibrary/Sol_RRHH_JornadasHPC.doc. If the attribute does not exist and the flag SMBC_XATTR_FLAG_REPLACE was specified.

We have made some changes now that hopefully will fix this issue. First install the fix:

* Download the file http://bbh-001.boitho.com/div/boitho-crawlManager-1.4.122-1.i386.rpm
* Then go to Software updates->Advanced in the admin panel and install the rpm.

With the fix installed you should be able to crawl the collection normally. However no access information will be included. So you will have to setup that manually. In the administrator interface click on manage for a collection and go to the “Access level” tab. Here you can set who has access to a collection. For example a specific group or all users that are logged in.

Bdw, the collection will not be available for search befor it has been crawled in full. If you only want to do a small test crawl you can use the test crawl function on “Advanced management” tab for that collection.

I too am having an issue when trying to scan a linux based smb share. I have tried to download the rpm to see if it would fix my issue but the link seems to be gone. Can you assist.

Sorry about that. That patches has been removed because it contained some code that is older then what is currently sent out thought automatic updates. The Alfresco patch has however made it into a cumulative update that will fix this and other issues.

I will find out status on this new update, and post a link to it so you can get Alfresco working. The cumulative update will also go out to everyone thought automatic updates soon.

Unfortunately so have you caught us a little bit at a bad time, just between two updates. The old fix won’t work now, but I hope to have a new version of the effected package with Alfresco support online this week.

We are hoping for Wednesday, but I can’t make any promises. I will post it her when it is ready.

Unfortunately the Alfresco fix isn’t ready yet, but someone if actively working on it. So it should be ready any time now.
