All our users are working on Win workstations authenticated by MS AD. I’m using the VMware SearchDaimon ES version. I’m now looking for a manner to avoid users to type username and password when accessing to private search page.
Unfortunately I poorly lack of Linux skills so, maybe I’m silly talking, I’d presume I’d need to adjust some access parameters on Apache/Samba.
I see the ovf carries the Samba package embedded but no idea how to make it working in conjunction with Apache.
Any suggestion?

Unfortunately it is not supported do to (complex) technical reasons. We do also not use the standard Apache authentication module, but a custom one.

Technical: If the crawler supports it, the ES will use a system we call “path access” look up the access rights for every file before viewing it in the search interface. This helps improve security because any changes to a files access rights will be detected an ones, instead of having to wait to the next recrawl. Any bugs in the ES security system will also not be passed on to the result page.

Unfortunately this requires the ES knows the end-users password. The password is never stored. Instead with basic authentication the password is sent for each web request. The ES simple vitrify it and use it to log on the any other servers you have crawled as the end-user to see that the end-user still has the right to do so.

We will make it possible to opt-out of the online security scan in the future ( it is on the road map http://www.searchdaimon.com/wiki/Road_map_to_the_future ), and then we may add Windows clients passthrough, but as it stands now, it is not possible to setup.
