I think we have spoken about this on the chat also, but I am posting the answer here anyway in case anyone else is wondering.

Unfortunately searching for part of a word is not supported, but stemming is. For example a search for “car” may return document containing car, cars, carring etc. Thus words all have car as its root form. But words like carbonara, carbon, carburetor etc are not derived from the word car and will therefor not be search for.

If we had supportet searching for parts of a word I think the results would have been weary nosy. One would get documents about cars and carbon when trying to find a carbonara recipe.

That being said, your example word southwest is a very good example on when one would like to see partial words searching. Unfortunately there is no way I am aware of to know that southwest is derived from south, expect to manually make a dictionary of words like thus.

However we also have a query suggest function that may suggest southwest as you start to type south.
