Cannot crawl a sharepoint site

I just cannot crawl a sharepoint no matter what I use—even if I go the Internat route.

Here is what I keep getting as a result: ( Changed the address here)

NEWMedia Not fully crawled Service description ‘http://server\administrator:M@$4448B@88.88.88.86/_vti_bin/Webs.asmx?WSDL’ can’t be loaded: 400 Bad Request

Why is there a “http” before the domain or server name and the login name i this case Administrator ?

I have tired this a million different ways with different accounts - no go! But, I can reach it as normal SP site in my browser.

I also tired if from 3 different installs of SD—same result. Crawling other Servers works ok .

Are you using the special SharePoint crawler or the intranet crawler? The SharePoint crawler uses SharePoint web services to crawl.

Is the SharePoint site password protected? And if so with form based authentication or http basic authentication? If http basic authentication you will get a pop op like where you enter your username and password:

What version of SharePoint is this?

Why is there a “http” before the domain or server name and the login name i this case Administrator ?

Because the crawler tries to use http basic authentication. The url syntax is http://user:password@ipadress/path .

As you can see this depends on interpretation of the characters :, / and @. The ES is supposed to encode thus so you can have them in your password, but have you tried to set a password that don’t have any /,\,: or @ in it, just in case?

Still crawling—reaching 50,000 documents. Of course this is a SharePoint site so everything is considered a “document” . For example we have a SharePoint Application that has internal related lists and Web Parts that functions as a CRM . We sell it all over the world. So as far as SD is concerned a crawled “document” could be Contact or Company display form , a Task, Interaction or email or a “real” document. No problem here , we want it to do that crawl.

Unfortunately , our Email Web part has a BODY details field that gets filled by our Outlook Connector but in SD it shows up as HTML code—otherwise everything is fine .

Now saying that, I also find that SD crawls all of a SP site including administrate data. I assume that the data displayed by SD conforms with each user permission level in SharePoint and not beyond it as they must logon to their SP site with their regular SharePoint login . However, after a search they are able to view at least in the SD Result Customization Display which might give some users more than we would like them to initially see even though they cannot open to read more information.

The ES shall follow the existing security permission, so no user should be able to see something in the results they don’t have access to.

But regardless of the ES security model, so is it a good practice not to copy security sensitive information from one system to another if you don’t have to. So instead of crawling with the administrator user, I would recommend that you make a dedicated user for the ES and only allow it to access what you want to show your users.
