The links, when hovered over, look correct, but nothing happens.  I’ve tried in both Firefox 11 and IE9 with the same results.  Am I missing something?

Doh! Thanks for the tip.  I’ll check it out.  I did read through the doc, but I missed that because it shows up amongst the Exchange stuff, which I skipped over becuase I’m not using that.  That documentation could use a little better organization

Adding the IP as a trusted site in IE fixed the problem (since I don’t have the IP bound to a FQDN for testing right now).  I have to be in compatibility mode to get the site to display properly though.

I notice though, that one of my crawls died overnight.  It failed with “could not free smbc context”, then looks like it tried to start again but failed saying it was already crawling.  I’m wondering what the maximum capability of Searchdaimon is?  This SMB share contains over 1 million files, and some of them have pretty long path names.  Is this too much to expect reliable results on?

Also, on another failure in the log I notice it is putting my SMB authentication information in the log in clear text, which is most certainly being sent across the wire clear text with http.  That’s unfortunate. The product looks like it has great potential though.

Your mileage will vary, but how many documents you can index mostly depends on your underlying infrastructure. Especially how much ram you have allocated, disk i/o speed and if you have a virtualization host that has a god implementation of symmetric multiprocessing (like newer VMware ESXi).

We routinely test our software with a data share that has 6.5 Wikipedia articles as separate html files, and that work well. I do also know about on customer that has several hundred millions files on a single server. Of course then have a more expensive setup, where they run Searchdaimon directly on bare metal, with lots of ram, cpu and 15k sas disks.

I’m having trouble with this too.  I loaded the Chrome extension mentioned in this thread, and now action occurs when I click the link (which is an improvement over no action), however, now I get a Chrome error message that says:

This webpage is not found
No webpage was found for the web address: file://192.168.1.226/Music/Artists/AV/AlbumArtSmall.jpg
Error 6 (net::ERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND): The file or directory could not be found.

The file is in fact there, at the location specified, and was obviously found when crawled. 
This happens on any file type.

Are you able to access this in Windows explorer? Open a new explorer window, then past in \\192.168.1.226\Music\Artists\AV\AlbumArtSmall.jpg (note the changes in direction of the slashes).

Have you tried another browser like Internet Explorer (you may have to add the ES url to your trusted website zone)?

Using Windows Explorer, I was challenged with an authentication screen (which I thought was odd, because I could access the same share via the Run box without a challenge by typing \\server\share).  Once I entered a username & password, it gave me an error message (unspecified error), but then going back to the public search, I was able to access the document via the link.  I’m able to access everything now. It will be interested to see if I need to go through this process again after a reboot of the workstation.  (I suspect the answer is yes).
